William Harnden

A dynamic advisor with hands-on professional experience in senior management and leadership positions at local and international NGOs, social enterprises, and the United Nations. In 2021 he joined Chapel & York as their UK Foundation Director, to facilitate international fundraising and philanthropy

William can support business development for your organisation by raising funds and strengthening external relationships on your behalf, working alongside you to develop a growth strategy, or by facilitating a re-structure by organising all legal and governance matters. William has a proven track record of success when providing these services.

An experienced trainer and mentor, particularly adept at working with culturally diverse international teams, and across a range of professions. He has worked closely with senior employees from the academic, corporate, diplomatic, government and NGO sectors.

ASSIST India 2021

During the COVID-19 pandemic, William has been raising funds for projects to improve health and livelihoods in rural villages in Andhra Pradesh, South East India. He is now working on an ongoing basis for ASSIST as their Liaison Officer to develop new business opportunities and raise their international profile.


The European Institute for Cooperation and Development 2020 – ongoing

Following a full-time position as head of development for the South East Asia region, William was hired by the IECD to set up the governance and legal structure of a UK registered charity and facilitate their mutual partnership. He works closely with the executives of the French organisation and the UK trustees.

For the past 3 years William has been providing training and advice to grassroots NGOs who have great ideas and projects but few resources to develop their organisations. He has now built this social enterprise into an international network, through which they act as an agency to exchange knowledge between the different organisations during training sessions, and a platform to promote grassroots NGO work.
