John has been working in both the charity, public and private sector since 1990, specialising in fundraising,  communications and business development. John has held a number of senior positions to CEO level within national organisations. John carries out both interim management assignments and consultancy.  He is a Trustee of a US based Non-Profit in New York. John advises wealthy individuals on their philanthropy strategies and helps them identify projects to support throughout the world. He holds a Masters in International Relations, is Prince2 qualified and a Windsor Leadership graduate.

Julie Foster

Based in the South of England










Julie Foster has more than 20 years working in the charity sector, in senior fundraising positions for both large national and small start-up charities. Julie started her fundraising career in the NSPCC’s corporate fundraising team and went on to establish a successful new fundraising & communications directorate for national disability charity, FitzRoy. In recent years Julie has specialised in high level statutory and trusts fundraising and has raised 6 figure sums from major grant funders, including the National Lottery. Julie is passionate about upskilling smaller charities that do incredible work!

Haidee-Laure Giles

Based in England








Haidee-Laure has more than 15 years of experience within the international development, human rights and humanitarian sectors in leading and managing international projects in partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Haidee-Laure has worked in various countries in Africa, Latin America, South Asia and the Middle East supporting projects and advocacy with a particular focus on livelihoods and refugees issues; she speaks five languages. She is the founder of two NGOs in Portugal and serves as Vice-President of a small organisation denouncing human rights violations and promoting joint actions in Portuguese speaking countries.

Haidee-Laure’s main area of expertise is project management and funding, partnership building, as well as advocacy.
She has led multi-country programmes and advocacy on food justice, in partnership with grassroots organisations and government. In 2010 she contributed to the creation of the UK Food Sovereignty movement and lobbied for the first UK Bill on Agroecology adopted in 2014. She has also secured large grants from a range of EU government’s funding programmes, including DFID, and SIDA. She has also raised money from the Big Lottery Fund. More recently, she has worked on refugees issues in Bangladesh in the largest refugee camp in the world and in Greece.

Bilingual French/English, fluent in Portuguese and working knowledge of Spanish and Italian.

Recent deployment
Bangladesh for the IRC to carry out grant management for the Rohingya refugees crisis.
In-depth research and analysis of the impact of Climate Change on farmers in 4 countries in Southern Africa to inform La Via Campesina’s advocacy strategy.
Researched  impact of food policy and trade reforms on farmers in Mozambique.

Recent Achievements

  • Responsible for the oversight and overall management of IRC’s humanitarian framework team
    to increase the value and quality engagement of key European donors in forgotten and protracted
    crisis in the Syria Region, West Africa and the Horn (portfolio value of USD$10.9m).
  • Awarded USD$8.8m by SIDA (SwedishAid)
  • Secured SIDA’s ongoing support for IRC’s Strategic Initiative promoting innovative thinking in
    humanitarian project design and delivery


Nicola Barrett BA (Hons)

Based in France








Nicola has 19 years’ experience and a demonstrated history of programme and strategy development in international non-profit organisations. She has specialised in project and proposal management through building effective and lasting working relationships, increasing Amnesty International’s external partnerships by over 500% between 2010 and 2015.

With an eye for detail and conciseness, particularly in relation to planning, monitoring, reporting and impact evaluation, Nicola previously worked as a strategic development consultant for a Netherlands-based foundation and for a European funding programme. She thrives on contact with a diverse range of partners, and work flexibly and proactively to support their initiatives, and is convinced that by working together, we can make the world a better place.

Nicola has a BA (Hons) in French and Politics, speaks fluent French.

Zoë Strong

Based in France











Zoë has over 10 years partnership development, account management and fundraising experience, having worked for health, welfare, educational and environmental causes including the NSPCC, Marie Curie and Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Zoë is experienced in developing strategies and programmes for corporate, Trust and Foundations fundraising. Zoë has an MSc in Marketing Communications, a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and Leadership and a Fundraising Management Certificate. Through her corporate experience in national account management and business development roles, Zoë has worked with a wide range of high-profile clients from sectors including energy, professional services, retail and hospitality.

Sune Buch Segal, MSc

Based in Scotland


Often reaching into his anthropological toolbox, Sune has 18 years’ experience working at the nexus of communications and human rights-focused international development programming. Having held managerial positions at several leading third-sector organisations he is passionate about making communications and fundraising work to further human rights and social justice. Sune has experience collaborating with partners across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He is particularly well-versed in the Middle East and North Africa, having lived in Damascus, Beirut, and Ramallah, and having overseen complex development programmes across the region.

Early 2020, assignment for International Media Support: Evaluate impact and provide recommendations for the continuation of a media development programme designed to defuse ethno-religious tensions in Sri Lanka through conflict- sensitive journalism and media sector reform.


Late 2019, assignment for International Media Support: Evaluate project designed to enhance the quality and quantity of media coverage of religious minorities in Pakistan and Iraq. Write funding bid to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a continuation of the project. Based on the bid the ministry decided to fund a three-year extension of the programme.



William Harnden

Based in Thailand










William has 10 years of international development experience, including overseas postings and 6 years as the Executive Director of a UK charity. Detailed knowledge of working within the UN system, multinational aid agencies, NGOs and community based organisations. Proposal and report writing skills developed through engagement with a range of donors including bilateral agencies such as the Australian Government and International Rescue Committee, corporate sector including Aberdeen Standard Investments and Accor, and diverse range of Trusts, Foundations and high net worth individuals (HNWIs).

Head of Public Relations at Stonham Housing Association and Senior Press Officer at the London Borough of Greenwich. Penny was also Head of Publications at NCVO and Head of Partnerships at NCVO.

Martyn Weeds BA, MA, MInstF(Dip)

Martyn is a Member of the Institute of Fundraising and has held senior positions in a number of social welfare and animal welfare charities. He has sat on the Board/Management Committee of several organisations, most recently serving as a Trustee of a small charity supporting education and well-being projects in India, Nepal and Malawi.

Martyn’s main area of expertise is EU social policy, funding and project management.  He has secured large grants from a range of EU funding programmes, including Daphne III, Youth in Action and Lifelong Learning, and has managed large multi-country networks and partnerships to ensure all deliverables are achieved and all funding and reporting criteria are met.  Martyn has also worked with the UK National Agency to evaluate applications to the new Erasmus+ Programme.
