Abbey Solutions International (ASI) was established in 1999. The consultancy provides tailored innovative support to charities, NGOs, Donors and companies. 

 

UK Support

In the UK we support social welfare charities, environmental, animal welfare and wildlife charities, social enterprises, educational organisations and medical research institutes. We also provide business development support to private and public sector organisations. Recently we were supporting the London Fire Brigade (2019) with their business services. We provide a bespoke philanthropy services to High Net Worth Individuals.

We have one simple aim; to work with organisations and individuals that want to make positive change.


Our History

Abbey Solutions was established by John Abbey in 1999. Previously John had worked in both the corporate and charity sector.  When he was 20 he trained as a professional photographer.  Always the adventurer, in 1983 he was accepted into the most prestigious Army regiment in the UK and probably the world, The Special Air Services (SAS) 21 (reserve). This was cut short as the famine in the Horn of Africa took hold and in 1984 John organised an expedition from London to Khartoum called the Walk of Life, with a fellow SAS Trooper, Brian Seymour from 23 squadron and three other guys. The aim of the 2,500 mile walk was to raise money for famine relief  by involving schools across Europe and Egypt. The expedition was supported by British Airways, British Army, Novotel, Hitachi, Hilton Hotels Group and celebrities including, Dire Straits rock band and Sir Bob Geldof. It was John’s first taste of charity events and philanthropy.

In 1999 the consultancy began supporting UK charities such as the Stroke Association, United Response, Down’s Syndrome Association, elearning Foundation and The Wildlife Trust.

 

2005 – NGO support began

In 2005 Abbey Solutions began working internationally, helping NGOs with their strategic planning and fundraising. Abbey’s first assignment was in Bosnia & Herzegovina, working with local NGOs and the local authorities tackling sex trafficking, a major problem at the time. Abbey helped raise money from the UN and EU for safe houses.

 

2006-2010

From 2006 Abbey Solutions overseas focus was on supporting Indian and African NGOs. One of our first clients was ASSIST India. Today they are still benefitting from the enormous support we were able to secure for them, helping hundreds of children stay in school every year since 2010 and ensure villages had clean drinking water and good sanitation.

The UK focus remained mostly on charities and now included recruitment for senior appointments and interim management. It was in this time John Abbey was appointed CEO of the Lambeth eLearning Foundation, a charity that provided ICT training to vulnerable young people on housing estates across South London. The initiatives John developed were recognised by central government and the charity was awarded the first ever eLearning award from the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

Our first recruitment assignment was for the Prince’s Trust.


2010 – present

Abbey has continued to work across all sectors and now has offices in London and Glasgow with 12 consultants working across the UK, EU and Asia.

Overseas Abbey works in the Middle East,  SE Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and the EU, supporting NGOs and Donors with fundraising, project management/analysis, business development, security and risk management.

In the UK Abbey continues to support some of the UK’s largest charities, such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, Montessori Group and many medium sized organisations. The focus is on fundraising, strategic planning, business development, senior level recruitment and interim management.
