John Abbey

John is the Managing Director of Abbey Solutions International and ASI Philanthropy. He has been working in the charity and NGO sector since 1990 and in 1999 he established Abbey Solutions. Back in the 1980s he decide to walk to Africa. From Waterloo station to the Sudan to be precise, a distance of 2,000 miles.

The purpose was to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia. He gained the support of Sir Bob Geldof, Dire Straits, and numerous companies, International Schools and the Pope! After spending time in Africa working on safaris, and working at Kora, run by George Adamson of Born Free fame, he returned to England and began his career in the third sector. John specialised in fundraising and communications, working for some of the largest charities in the UK.  Today, as a consultant he focuses on fundraising, business development, HNWI support and advising government initiatives to reduce gang influence.

John has always been keen to work for organisations that really make a significant impact. In his long career he has travelled extensively and seen the good, the bad and the very ugly in terms of effective NGOs. His experience and desire to ensure NGOs doing great work are able to get funding spurred him on to establish ASI Philanthropy in 2019.  The sole purpose of this new initiative is to advise wealthy individuals on their philanthropy strategies, and help them identify high quality, impactful projects anywhere in the world.
